Encaustic leftovers

I made a few dogtag like books and a little book mark shaped object from leftover encaustic bits tonight.

Ok. A Packet

Ages ago i did sturt summer Sci with a fabric artist named inge hunter (?).
She used her scraps to make piles or packets. She used glue to stick them together and dipped hers in ink.
But these are the encaustic leftovers from the tiny library.
Can't glue them.
So I've sewn them (or can we call this a single strand palm leaf binding? ;))
Letter k on top chosen because i rarely use it. Underneath is the letter o.
Inge also taught me that every piece of paper has six sides. So i used a jade coloured oil pastel along the edge of easy page.
It's about 5cm square at the base.

At last the tiny library all accessioned

Covered the box with a map of Paris.
Added and changed some belly bands.

Tiny library almost done

Added and subtracted bits.
Decided to change orientation so it's a box not a shelf.
Found some tiny gold brads in a stationery store so they feature as fasteners this week. I can't glue the encaustic because they are too waxy.so it's stitching. And now brads.

The library

For the past few weeks I've been working on this tiny library.
The box used to hold two bottles of wine. Each shelf is 2.5 inches deep.
Previous pictures of the contents included a few more books, but while they were beautiful books they didn't look right in the shelf.
So they'll go off and have an independent life, and I'm making more books for the second shelf.
And one of those books is here.
It's a double concertina. The 2 concertinas are a different heights, so it makes them nicely assymetrical.
Usually with a double concertina like this I would cut windows so you can see the beauty inside, but the assymetry means I don't have to.
i like it best on its side (as pictured at the bottom).
now where to put the colophon?
